Venice, California

''No matter what you think you look like, having a kind heart will always make you beautiful.'' - Terry Mark

There’s so much to do and see in lovely Venice, California that it’s difficult to cover in one post. I decided to do an additional one which allows me an opportunity to share another look with you. The enclave of Venice is bustling 24/7…  always overflowing  with quite a colorful mix of people from every walk of life.

You absolutely cannot visit Venice without a trip to the famous Boardwalk and Muscle Beach, where the up and coming “Arnolds” are working out for all to observe. With skateboarders, unicyclists, souvenir shops and street performers, it’s a super fun and very eclectic vibe.

Once you’ve had your fun at the beach and the boardwalk, it’s time to head back to my favorite stomping grounds in Venice, Abbot Kinney. It’s hard for me to be in Venice and not head straight to this shopping and dining haven. A must stop for seafood lovers is a charming restaurant by the name of Salt Air.  If you’re at all like me, you’re by the beach and you’re craving seafood.  With fresh oysters, snapper, and salmon as well as the tastiest veggies, not to mention the delicious french fries, you will be over the moon.  Next stop is at Tom’s Coffee Shop, and yes, it’s owned by Tom’s shoes, for an awesome latte or cappuccino, decaf if you’re this girl.  And, the well known, Lemonade, is always there for the most delicious desserts and tasty flavored lemonades. It’s a favorite stop for a quick bite, with a cafeteria style line allowing you to taste and select your favorite dishes from their endless array of healthy choices.  Some of my top choices include the beef brisket, which tastes like Mom made it,  and the vegetarian chili.

If you are at all like me, you adore home decor shops. If you happen to have some time left on your stay in Venice,  I highly recommend a stop at Tumbleweeds and Dandelions, a fabulous shop with everything for the casual beachy home.  I moved to LA from Chicago several years ago and had designed my home there as a beach cottage. I’ve been a Cali girl at heart for most of my life.  A former interior designer, my absolute top look is the beachy Cali look.  Whitewashed interiors, high ceilings, lots of light and soft pale blue, with seashell sconces and beadboard galore, that’s the Cali decorating style.  With a peek around this shop, you will find the perfect items to decorate your home in LA style.

This look is from Club Monaco. So perfect for California, summer vacations, the Hamptons, you name it … this look will work for you. Club Monaco is my go to when I’m looking for that special outfit. This lace dress and blazer are dyed to match. I adore special touches on clothing and this doesn’t disappoint with the charming bow detail on the jacket. Even a clutch to match, it’s a dreamy look for any woman of any age. I can find just about anything at Club Monaco.  Known for quality and unique style, Club Monaco always delivers.  What are your favorite summer looks? Have you ever visited Venice?  Tell me about your top hang outs.  I absolutely love to hear from my readers!

My fave summer looks are anything with pom old like clutches $ sandals. I also am loving lace & pastel colours together. I’m a true boho soul at heart even though my wardrobe is extremely eclectic & fashion is my true passion. Another great look is the off the shoulders ruffled blouses with a simple leather choker tied in a bow. ? My addiction is accessories , so bags , shoes , scarves and of course jewelry. No outfit in my opinion is complete without the perfect accessories. Turquoise & gold jewelry are a beautiful color combo for Summer especially if you have a glowing tan. I love a classic Tory Burch fedora & tunic combo too. Oh and another fave look is fun & fabulous sunglasses. I collect them and probably have easily over 75 pairs. They are great for those low to none make up days when you know it’s too hot and your makeup is just going to smear and melt down off your eyes.

I have loved Club Monico since the early days of their famous logo sweaters. I wire those proudly throughout highs cool in the 90’s. They have come a long way and the quality of fabrics are sensational. Unfortunately , I can’t afford a lot of their items but my fave word of all time is SALE so that’s when I hit it up. Your outfit is stunning

As for Venice beach. I have visited it 3 x now and have loved it more each time. It’s a perfect place to people watch and feel completely comfortable with yourself. I love how it’s such a melting pot and there’s so much cool stuff to see. I remember the second time I went with my family on a Disney trip and we ate at the amazing little restaurant that over looks the beach & ocean and they had the best fish tacos and cosmos. I remember it was happy hour and my mom, sister and I had a few too many Martinis and my poor dad had to listen to us act silly on the drive back to Hollywood cause we had tickets to Jimmy Kimmel. I remember we were half way there and I needed a washroom so bad and somehow stopped in the TV guide building where they kindly let me use it. We were rushing like mad because we had to get to the show on time or we couldn’t get in. Long story shoter. Lol We made it , got front row seets and had a fantastic evening as s family. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Glad I found your blog. I can’t wait to read more. @fashionbeforefunction ?❤️

That’s an awesome story, Shayna. Funny how some details are just etched in our minds and memories. Venice is definitely a lot of fun. And, I’m with you on many of your fashion suggestions. I love sunglasses too. Have you seen the Shop Ditto offer that I posted to give you a month free of designer shades? It’s such a great concept. Love it and it’s my daughters bday tomorrow and gold and turquoise it is. Samantha Wills is on IG. She has gorgeous turquoise and gold pieces. Nice to meet another lovely boho girl!

I would kill to go to Jimmy Kimmel. They have the Comedy and Magic Club a block away and they have awesome comics like Jay Leno and Arsenio Hall. Jimmy Kimmel makes me laugh so hard and laughter is the best medicine. xoxo
