They say “50 is the new 30” and I would have to agree. It seems that women are turning back the clock and finding ways to live healthier and more vibrant lives. With yoga, meditation and the expansion of social media brimming with images showing women leading healthy lifestyles, it’s never been easier to look and feel younger than ever before. Give yourself a treat and let your boots do the talking when you go a walking!

As a woman who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s, it seemed there were endless rules about what we could and couldn’t wear. White after Labor Day was a deal breaker. Mini skirts at midlife didn’t exist. And…thigh high boots were relegated to strippers dancing around a pole. Fast forward to this day and age and it can be hard to tell the difference between a Gen X and a Midlifer, with women more dedicated than ever before to find ways to disrupt the aging process. One of the easiest ways is to add a little something to your wardrobe that makes you feel youthful and edgy! So get your Mod Squad on and strut your stuff!

As Nancy Sinatra used to say, “These boots are made for walking,” and you’ll rarely find me without my favorite pair by Delman Shoes far away. I’ve worn them with everything from distressed denim to a lacy dress by Self Portrait. The range is endless and I believe in women of all ages breaking the rules. Although the Delman brand is hard to come by as they to disappear the moment they are restocked, I’ve tagged many other styles in a variety of price ranges. Authentically, people stop me every time I’m wearing them and ask me where to find them. On social media, the comments are always…”Who makes those boots and where can I get them?” I found a pair recently on sale at Bloomies and within a day, they were completely sold out again. Delman is my top pick yet there are many other shapes and designs to flatter different body shapes and accommodate multiple budgets.

Magazines are overflowing with youthful images and women are finding ways to disrupt aging on every level. Personally, I love disrupting the aging process and pushing myself to try things I never thought possible at my age. The visions I have of growing up was one of midlife Moms going to the beauty salon to have their hair teased and set. I vividly remember the hot pink “Dippity Do” and my Mom sleeping in rollers in between salon visits to keep her hair perfectly coiffed. The dress code was very “Jackie O” with most women in the 40’s and 50’s in conservative attire, rarely risking stepping out of bounds. I remember white gloves and fur muffs which seems like a century ago as time seems to move faster and faster.

Today’s woman at midlife is more youthful and vibrant than ever before and determined to break the rules…or define her own rules. I find myself in that category. A rule breaker. An age disrupter. A woman intending to lead the way into a new paradigm. When it comes to fashion, I believe women should dress for themselves. Fashion is a feeling; it’s creative expression at it’s finest and a means of showing the world who you are on the deepest level. Personally, I have a blast when it comes to deciding what to wear. I’m not a big trend follower yet I’ve come to find certain trends are here to stay. I was a little reluctant to try out over-the-knee boots when they first came out. I thought they might be too young for me. Now, I find myself wearing them with just about everything. From jeans to dresses and miniskirts, they seem to make the look. I can create just about any style around a pair of black suede over-the-knee boots. They seem to cause an optical illusion by lengthening the leg and are flattering on all different body shapes.

I dare you to break the rules, no matter your age! Give the over-the-knee boot trend a try. You may be as surprised as I was to find it become a classic in your wardrobe.
