“Clubhouse is like a Podcast and a Community had a baby.” – Jennifer Pate

Unless you’ve been living under a rock lately, you’ve most likely heard about Clubhouse. In the world of social media, it’s the hottest ticket in town.

I was talking to a new friend, Jennifer Pate, recently. We were on a Zoom call. She was in Barbados. And I was … jealous! Jen is building a brand to help women at Midlife & Beyond Feel Ageless. We were talking about joining forces on Clubhouse when she put into words exactly what Clubhouse is. It is as if a Podcast & a Community had a baby! So perfect and so true.

And what a fabulous community we have: the Forever Fierce: Midlife Matters Community on Facebook – a community we invite to join us on Clubhouse! One of the most powerful ways to show the world that Midlife Matters is by sharing your Voice and becoming a part of the Midlife Matters Club

Now, to make a baby together! Here’s the “deets” on Clubhouse:

So, what exactly is Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is an audio only medium. It is currently available on iPhone only as it’s still in Beta.

How do I join Clubhouse?

All you need is an invite and an iPhone/iPad. Once you receive your invitation via text message, simply download the Clubhouse App and click to join. Set up your profile and you’re good to go.

Great, I’m in. What now?

Well, first you want to zip on over to join the Midlife Matters Club – a safe space dedicated to women at Midlife & Beyond. Then, you’ll want to get your feet wet by listening in to meaningful conversations.

You’ll see that you’re wearing a “party hat” meaning that you’re new to the platform. It’s easy to participate by simply raising your hand (click the hand on paper icon below.)

How do I join the conversation on “the stage?”

Simply tap the hand-on-paper icon at the bottom and you’ll receive a message asking you to join the stage.

Tap the message you receive to join the stage. Remember to hit the mute button ( microphone on bottom right) when you join the stage to mute any background noise until it’s your turn to speak.

Feel free to “clap” by tapping the microphone on and off quickly to share applause at any time.

Why is Clubhouse the ideal venue for women at Midlife & Beyond?

Well, for one, Clubhouse is audio only. After a year of lockdown, many of us are hungry for more ways to connect. Unlike Zoom, you don’t have to worry about getting dressed up or doing your hair and makeup, you can simply listen in from anywhere in the world.

What to do if I’m feeling nervous or intimidated to join Clubhouse?

Don’t be. Clubhouse is the perfect medium to share your voice. It’s user friendly.

Remember, it’s natural to feel nervous. We are all beginners on Clubhouse as it’s brand new. We are in this together!

Also, by joining The Midlife Matters Club, you’ll have an instant Band of Sisters, who will be cheering you on and encouraging you along the way. You’ll be inspired by seeing women becoming leaders and hosting their own rooms in the Midlife Matters Club. Here’s a blog post with all the “deets” by the fabulous Eugenia Hargrove, the Age of Grace, who hosts her very own “A Place for Grace” every Saturday on Clubhouse in Midlife Matters at 9am EST!

Clubhouse is catching on like wildfire. You may be lucky enough to join a conversation with Oprah, Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos! Now, isn’t that a reason to join?!?
