Moxie On Monday: Go Take a Hike! (No, Really—You’ll Thank Me Later.)
Do Mondays ever hit you like a freight train? The weekend glow fades, the to-do list looms, and the coffee just isn’t cutting it?
I have the perfect antidote for you.
Go take a hike!
And I mean that in the best possible way.
There’s something about lacing up your sneakers, breathing in crisp morning air, and immersing yourself in nature that flips the switch on your energy, clears the mental clutter, and leaves you feeling unstoppable.
For me, it all started with playing hooky at Mount Rainier National Park—and wow, was it worth it.
A Change of Scenery, A Change of Heart
If you had told me 4 years ago that I’d leave sunny L.A. for the misty Pacific Northwest, I would have looked at you as though you’re crazy! I was convinced that anything less than 300 days of sunshine would send me into a downward spiral.
But life, as it often does, had other plans.
The moment I stepped into Washington’s lush, emerald landscapes, my heart cracked wide open. Towering trees, endless coastline, waterfalls that looked straight out of a fairy tale—it was nature on steroids, and I was hooked. Of course, I did what any self-respecting, tree hugging hippie, adventure-seeking woman would do: I grabbed my pup, Moxie, and set out to explore my new backyard.
The Mountain had been beckoning my soul for months. I finally stopped saying “I’m too busy” and answered nature’s call. Nothing could have prepared me for that view. They don’t just call it “The Mountain” around here for nothing. The instantaneous dopamine rush and awe inspiring wonder brought tears of joy to my eyes. My inner child was having a field day.
Why Hiking is the Ultimate Mood Booster
If you need a push to hit the trails, here’s your sign. Hiking isn’t just about putting one foot in front of the other—it’s a total mind-body reboot.
Science backs it up, too:
✔️ Burns 400-700 calories an hour (who needs a treadmill?)
✔️ Boosts mental health and slashes stress like a boss
✔️ Keeps your heart, brain, and bones strong
✔️ Disconnects you from tech and reconnects you to YOU
✔️ Proven to lower cortisol and mimic the effects of meditation
✔️ Inspires awe, wonder, and creativity (hello, fresh ideas!)
✔️ Floods your body with happy hormones

Pro Tips for the Ultimate Hike
Before you grab your water bottle and go full Wild, keep these tips in mind:
✨ Plan ahead. Download a trail map before you go—cell service can be non-existent.
✨ Dress smart. Layers are your best friend. You’ll warm up as you hike.
✨ Fuel up. Pack snacks, water, and—yes—sunscreen.
✨ Pick your path. National parks are HUGE. Choose your trail before heading out.
✨ Respect nature. Some areas are off-limits for pups, so check before bringing your furry friend.
✨ Savor the moment. Stop. Breathe. Take in the views. (And don’t forget to snap a few pics!)
Your Challenge This Week? Take a Hike!
Whether it’s a rugged mountain trail, a peaceful local forest path, or even a city park—just get outside. Let nature do what it does best: restore, recharge, and remind you that you are strong, capable, and ALIVE.
For an added bonus and a guaranteed dopamine rush, don’t be shy about hugging a tree or two. Remember to hug like nobody’s watching. Most likely, nobody is!
So grab your sneakers, find a trail, and take a hike!
Your body, mind and spirit will thank you.
