"If today was your last day, everything would matter again. The way the sunlight dances through the trees. The laughter of a friend. The warmth of your pup curled up next to you. You would savor every single moment, every single breath.”

Moxie on Monday: What If It’s the Last Time?

What if today was your last day on earth?

The last time you’ll see a sunset.

The last time you’ll hug a loved one.

The last walk on a beautiful beach.

The last nap. The last dance.

Would you see life differently? Would you savor every precious moment? Would you finally say the words you’ve been holding back, take the risk you’ve been afraid to take, or let go of the grudges you’ve been holding?

Life is all about perspective.

Think back to when you were a child. Everything felt magical. The first snowfall, the smell of cookies baking in the oven, the excitement of a new adventure. Every little thing was big. Every experience felt brand new.

And then, somewhere along the way, the magic began to fade. We stopped noticing. We rushed through life, eyes glued to screens, lost in to-do lists, drowning in distractions. The little things became insignificant, and even the big things lost their sparkle and shine.

But here’s the truth: the magic never left. We simply stopped seeing it.

If today was your last day, everything would matter again. The way the sunlight dances through the trees. The laughter of a friend. The warmth of your pup curled up next to you. You would savor every single moment, every single breath.

So why don’t we live that way every day?

The greatest regrets of people at the end of their lives aren’t what they did—it’s what they didn’t do. The love they didn’t express. The chances they didn’t take. The adventures they kept postponing for ‘someday.’

Here’s how to shift your perspective today:

  1. Pause and Notice

Slow down. Take a deep breath. Look around. Feel the breeze on your skin. Hear the sounds of life all around you. If this was the last time you’d get to experience this exact moment, how would you reframe the moment?

  1. Say What Needs to Be Said

Love someone? Tell them. Grateful for someone? Show them. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Life is too short for unspoken words.

  1. Do the Thing You Keep Putting Off

Book the trip. Start the project. Sign up for the dance class. Stop waiting for the perfect time—because the perfect time is now.

  1. Let Go of What No Longer Serves You

Resentment, fear, and self-doubt only weigh you down. If today was your last day, would you waste it carrying old wounds? Forgive. Release. Let go and move forward.

  1. Find the Magic And Wonder

See the world through the eyes of a child. Let yourself be in awe. Watch the sunset with wonder. Feel the grass beneath your feet. Live like everything is a miracle—because it is.

At the end of your life, you won’t remember the emails you sent, the meetings you attended, those zillions of material possessions or the things you checked off your to-do list. You’ll remember the love, the laughter, and the moments that took your breath away.

So, what if today was your last day?

Live like it is.

Because one day, it will be.
