Moxie on Monday: Getting Back Up When Life Falls Apart
Have you ever had the rug ripped out from under you? One moment, life feels steady, predictable, and comfortable. And then—without warning—everything crumbles. A relationship ends. A job is lost. A health crisis hits. A loved one passes. The foundation you once relied upon is suddenly gone, leaving you standing in the rubble, wondering how to begin again.
It’s natural to resist these moments. Oftentimes, they feel like a punishment or some cruel twist of fate. And naturally, we descend for a time, into grief. But what if those moments were something else entirely? What if destruction wasn’t only an ending, but also an invitation to an entirely new beginning?
Every time life falls apart, we are given a choice: to cling to what was, or to embrace what could be. In that wreckage lies the raw material for reinvention, for something greater and a higher purpose. It’s in these moments of deconstruction that we are offered the opportunity to reconstruct, to rebuild—not as we were, but perhaps as we were always meant to be.
Here are three powerful shifts to help you navigate life’s endings and embrace the new beginnings they bring:
- Reframe the Fall: From Crisis to Catalyst
Instead of asking, Why is this happening to me? Try asking, What am I to learn? Challenges, losses, and upheavals often offer hidden gifts, forcing us to grow in ways we never would have consciously chosen. Remember that life isn’t tearing you down—it’s clearing the way for something better. Trust that every ending contains the seeds of a new beginning.
- Let Go of the Ashes, Not the Lessons
When something falls apart, our first instinct is often to cling to the past. But trying to rebuild from the same broken pieces keeps us stuck. Instead, honor what was, take the lessons, and leave the rest behind. Ask yourself: What do I want to carry forward? What is no longer serving me? Letting go isn’t about loss; it’s about creating space for something new to emerge.
- Step Into the Unknown With Intention
Endings push us into uncharted territory, and that can feel terrifying. But it’s also where all possibilities exist. Instead of fearing the unknown, why not approach it with curiosity. Who do I want to become? What kind of life do I want to create? You’re not just starting over—you’re starting from experience, with newfound wisdom and strength.
Life will fall apart. A storm will come. That’s inevitable. But what if, instead of resisting, we embraced these moments as sacred turning points? What if we stopped seeing them as losses and started seeing them as gifts?
Because in every collapse, there is an opening. In every ending, there is an invitation. And in every fall, there is a chance to rise—stronger, wiser, and more aligned with who we are truly meant to be.
Remember that life happens for you, and not to you. This is your opportunity to evolve, expand and grow. What will you create?
