“If you’re offered a seat on a Rocket Ship, don’t ask what seat. Just get on!” – Sheryl Sandberg

I’ve always loved the metaphor of Midlife as the Phoenix Rising. The other day, another powerful metaphor came to mind. The metaphor of Midlife as a Rocket Ship.

I was 8 years old when the crew of the Apollo 11 landed on the moon. Do you remember that day like I do? I’ll never forget watching the Rocket Ship fire up the engines from the Kennedy Space Center. It felt surreal, bigger than life.

I suppose, at times, that’s how the years of Midlife & Beyond have felt – Bigger Than Life.

I believe they are – BIGGER THAN LIFE! I believe we are BIGGER THAN LIFE!

By now, you may be wondering what rocket ships have to do with Midlife?

Absolutely EVERYTHING!

First of all, when the rocket ship takes off, it’s loaded with lots of extra fuel and structure – things you need for the initial journey, for the lift off. Yet, for the rocket to leave the earth plane and enter into the cosmos, much of that extra baggage gets burned away. The essence or heart of the rocket ship, is what’s left behind. It’s also the most powerful part of the rocket. With all the extra baggage, it would never be able to enter the stratosphere and complete its mission. So, it must burn it up and let it go!

Midlife is a Rocket Ship.

The life of a woman before the Midlife pivot usually comes loaded with lots of excess baggage – all kinds of things that aren’t needed and aren’t particularly helpful to propel a woman to a higher destination, to her soul’s higher purpose.

Unless she burns it up and lets it go.

Intention is the spark that sets fire to the rocket ship.

The parts that fall away, the unnecessary parts or the excess baggage, are the disempowering stories, limiting beliefs, and all those things we carry with us that tend to weigh us down. In an instant, they fall away, propelling us higher and higher – to heights we could never imagine in the beginning stages of our journey.

At Midlife, we begin to lighten up, to let go of things we no longer need, many physical and even more, spiritual, mental and emotional.

The sooner we become aware that it’s time to let go, the sooner we are ready for take off.

We all carry dreams inside of our hearts, dreams of a new life, a better life and a new way of being. Much of the time, it’s our own beliefs and limiting stories that hold us back, that keep us from achieving our dreams.

The truth is, we can let go of those in an instant.

It’s as easy as lighting a fire to our intention, burning away the excess as our essence begins to fly higher and higher.

Cheers Beauties, are you ready for lift off?

I am.

Will you hop on board?
