“This should not be like Fight Club. The first rule of menopause should be to TALK about menopause.” – Catherine Balsam-Schwaber, Kindra CEO

No one used to talk about menopause. Certainly, not my mother or my grandmother! It never came up with friends either. Sure, there were occasional jokes about hot flashes or libido issues, but never a real, meaningful conversation. It was always treated like a woman’s dirty little secret … and a shameful burden to bear.

Those days are over. Kindra is in the house! Meet the refreshing company dedicated to women and menopause issues. Kindra came onto my radar when I saw one of my best friends, Jodie Filogomo, openly talking about her experience with their products in a rare and intimate conversation with her husband, Rob. I knew, right then, that Kindra was different.

Kindra is a breath of fresh air. More of a mission and movement, the company is a revolution around the menopause conversation and the way we “menopause.” Their innovative products are designed to help women go through “the change” with far more ease and grace. Oh, and a lot more education and awareness too. They have a super helpful quiz that helps you determine where you are in your menopause journey and what products are right for you. Their messaging along with their evolving line of products are forward thinking. Their language is sexy and sassy. Their products are designed to tackle every aspect of a woman’s menopause journey, including taking care of your precious “Lady V.” I have to admit, Kindra had me at “Lady V!”

Well, that and their sassy CEO, Catherine Balsam-Schwaber who believes that menopause shouldn’t be Fight Club: “Sorry Brad Pitt, but the first rule of menopause is to talk about menopause!” And you know I love to talk. I also love busting myths and stigmas, especially around menopause, a natural part of a woman’s life. The truth, however, is far more complicated. Menopause doesn’t affect only women. Menopause affects men too by impacting the women they love … and, in turn, their relationships, their sex lives, and just about everything else.

I know from my own experience how those hormonal fluctuations can wreak havoc on a woman’s life. I’m a late bloomer. Although the average age for a woman entering menopause is 51, I didn’t go crashing into menopause until I was 55. And, when I say crashing, I mean like 100 miles an hour straight into a brick wall! Like most women, it started off with hot flashes, waking up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat. Some nights, I would have to change my pajamas 3 or 4 times. I looked as if I had taken a full blown shower. But no, it was just my hormones taking a deep nose dive. Of course, in turn, my sleep was impacted which led to fatigue and exhaustion. My moods were a bit all over the map too. Many days, I would find myself on an emotional roller coaster.

I now live right on the Puget Sound, just outside of Seattle. The water is a chilly 50 degrees year round. To cool off a hot flash, I’d dunk myself in the frigid waters! Now, I have Kindra. No more hot flashes thanks to their line of plant-based supplements, and no need to dive into the chilly waters of the Sound. Now, I just do it for fun!.

Back to that emotional roller coaster of emotions. Fortunately, I wasn’t going crazy. I was simply head first into menopause. Once my doctor ran the requisite bloodwork, it was clear that I made a very speedy entry into menopause. Forever the over achiever, it was only 6 months earlier that I was at normal perimenopausal hormone levels. BAM! There I was, smack dab into full blown menopause. That’s the thing about menopause: our individual journeys are as unique as we are. The other thing is, now that I’m 60, my menopause journey continues throughout post menopause. My hormone levels remain depleted with continued impact on my sleep, my energy, my skin and my poor, neglected “Lady V.”

Ok, now why is it ok to have open discussions about Viagra and men’s nether regions and sex lives but not about women’s Vaginas? (That’s right … it’s a word that deserves to be capitalized!) Thank God for Kindra – a rule breaker on all fronts! With Kindra and their irreverent “Couch Conversations,” WE CAN & WE ARE!

Back to that Lady V!

Who knew there was an entire line devoted to making women feel better during menopause and the resulting change of life? I’ll admit, before I discovered Kindra, my Lady V was sorely neglected. She was also a “hurtin’ pup” once those estrogen levels took a deep dive. I remember talking to a few friends about the discomfort in my, ahem, lady parts. Intimacy was definitely far more uncomfortable. Heck, simple everyday urination was becoming cause for dread. It wasn’t just the skin on my face and body that was thinning. It was the skin on every inch of my body, including my “Lady V.”

Most women experience some form of discomfort in their lady parts as they go through their menopause journey. What’s important to know is that it’s perfectly normal and that you’re not alone. It’s also important to know that there are products specifically designed to soothe your lady parts. Enter Kindra’s Daily Vaginal Lotion, a best selling cult favorite, that includes a blend of feather-light, ultra-hydrating extracts, including coconut oil, sunflower seed oil, safflower seed oil, and moisture-loving humectants, with skin-critical vitamins E and B3 (niacinamide) to support skin-moisture barrier healing. It comes with an applicator that makes it easy to use. For me, relief came almost immediately. My Lady V was giving me a high five! Or maybe it was a low five!

Lucky for me, Kindra just launched a new “Soothe Bath Soak,” that’s hot off the presses and more good news for those often neglected lady parts. If your lady parts are anything like mine, dry as the Sahara desert, you’re in for a treat. Simply luxuriate in a nice warm bath, adding in the Soothe Bath Soak. Light a few candles, toss in a few rose petals (not necessary but definitely increases the sensual experience), and sit back and relax. That’s all it takes to add another element of moisture for your Lady V to soak in. Forever on the cutting edge of innovation, Kindra’s luxurious “Soothe Bath Soak” is the very first bath soak specifically formulated to consider the tender skin of women experiencing vaginal discomfort or shifting vaginal pH during midlife. It’s formulated with key ingredients like chamomile, Vitamin E, and coconut water for hydration, and a gentle yet effective clinically-studied peptide shown to provide comfort to sensitive skin. It’s like a little slice of heaven in the bathtub. Trust me, with this killer combination of the “Soothe Bath Soak” and the “Daily Vaginal Lotion,” your Lady V will thank you. Most likely, your partner will too!

Kindra’s other products offer support for the other signs of menopause that are most debilitating to women: hot flashes, disrupted sleep, and brain fog.

The Core Supplement: From balancing body and mind to boosting immunity and heart health, innovative relief meets daily self-care starts here. This also addresses and relieves hot flashes, brain fog, low libido and more:

  • Key ingredients: Pycnogenol® and Sensoril® Ashwagandha
  • 70% of women reported improvement in mood swings, brain fog, and perceived sense of stress after 12 weeks of use.
  • Over 50% of women reported an improvement in vaginal dryness and libido after 12 weeks of use

The Sleep Enhancing Supplement: A body-balancing night supplement promotes sleep and relaxation so you can rest easily. It helps you fall asleep and stay asleep without the grogginess in the AM:

  • Key ingredients: Pycnogenol®, Sensoril®,  Ashwagandha, and a non-habit forming melatonin
  • 77% of women reported improvement in night sweats after 12 weeks of use

The Focus Supplement: Feel fresh and focused with an energizing, antioxidant-packed hero and passes that brain fog for better mental clarity and reduced nerves:

  • Key ingredients: Pycnogenol®, Green Tea Extract
  • 23% improvement in memory and concentration at 4 weeks of use.

I started on a holistic path over 30 years ago. I had some very serious complications with the delivery of my daughter. To heal, I began investigating all kinds of natural therapies. Many of the natural supplements I’ve been using like Ashwagandha and Pycnogenol are key ingredients in Kindra’s supplement line. The Kindra product line is heavily researched and always grounded in solid science. All products are safe and Estrogen-Free. They’re also made by women for women. Their Pledge says it all: “Kindra is on a mission to help you prepare for, manage, and embrace your body’s natural hormonal shifts.”

I began using their 3 Hero Supplements in early December. I was really run down. These products couldn’t have come at a better time. What better testing ground than when you’re exhausted and not sleeping well? I started by taking one capsule of each of the 3 products. Before bed, I would take one Sleep Enhancing Dietary Supplement, which includes melatonin, Pycnogenol and Ashwagandha. When I wake up, I would take one Sleep Enhancing Supplement with breakfast and then one Focus Supplement with lunch. Basically, I was covering all bases at once. Lady V was happy and well tended to (for the first time in her life!) My sleep was improving which, in turn, helped with my energy. The Core added more of an energy boost while The Focus helped my ADD self to be more focused and present during long work days. Plus, as someone who is very busy, I love that I can get these products delivered to my door, without needing a subscription. You can get your menopause essentials delivered on your terms, whether that’s every 30/60/90 days.

At 60, I have the heart of a 25 year old when it comes to being a complete and total kid. I’ll admit, I don’t always have the energy or stamina of my younger self. I do have a fairly active lifestyle that keeps me on my toes. If I’m not working, you’ll probably find me on the beach with my overactive puppy Moxie, or on my beloved SUP or Stand Up Paddleboard, pretending it’s summer all year long. I need all the help I can get to keep up with that inner kid at heart! It’s nice to know there are wonderful natural products to help those of us at Midlife & Beyond to live a higher quality of life. I’m grateful to the team at Kindra for sponsoring this post and for introducing me to a movement, mission and kick ass product line that’s helped me get back to me. My Lady V thanks you. I have no doubt this is just the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Stay tuned, Beauties, as we have lots more in store with an all new season of Mastering Modern Midlife launching, sponsored by Kindra. Our very first “Couch Conversation” is with Kindra CEO, Catherine Balsam-Schwaber. Be prepared for some sassy, sexy, lively and irreverent conversations as we bring the menopause conversation into Modern Midlife.

Plus, Kindra has an exclusive offer for the Modern Midlife community. Use MODERNMIDLIFE20 for 20% off your first order or subscription.

Did Leona West recommend Kindra’s line of products to you?

Hello Sister!

Please, my apologies for a delayed response as I seem to have missed this comment. No, Leona did not recommend Kindra. Kindra combines several of the herbal products I was taking with Leona’s assistance. They put them together into one formula which I’ve loved as it simplifies my life and works beautifully. Please let me know if you give Kindra a try!

Lady V-what a wonderful, funny way to begin a conversation most of us are loathe to have. When I was younger, I thought of menopause as my gateway to becoming a shriveled old prune, consigned to a rocking chair and living on life’s margins. Well, “Aw hell, no!!” Life during and after menopause should just be another part of the journey on this amazing ride of womanhood. The fact that Kindra is created and owned by women means they get that. And the focus on self-care and bringing menopause out of the shadows is Brilliant! Thank you, Catherine and Kindra, for getting us out of the dark ages—literally!!

You know this is why I love you!You rock. We definitely need to open up about our poor Lady V’s. Those puppies have been sorely neglected – pun very much intended! Thank you, my friend!

You are so full of valuable information. I love the way you write and express yourself. These products sound amazing. I had a hysterectomy when I was 43 so I missed out (luckily) on menopause.
I’m going to check these products out to see what they can do for my body. Thank you for getting the word out. Kindra here I cum, I mean come, Sorry that slipped out 😊

You’re hilarious! I did not know you went into early menopause, sister. I am grateful to Kindra for educating us and providing wonderful products to take care of Lady V and the more challenging parts of menopause!

Brilliant love this post Catherine. It’s so important to talk about menopause. In the uk GP’s get very little training in it which is ridiculous as it effects half the population. Ashwaganda is amazing I take this by itself but now I know about this product I am going to try it. Is it easy to get in the uk? As I would like to share with my sisters here.

Reply

Thank you, sister! I don’t know about the availability in the UK but I will definitely find out for you! I know how you love everything natural and holistic. Ashwaganda has been wonderful for me as well and I’m loving the well researched combination products by Kindra and, most of all, the benefits.

Thank you for sharing this product line. Can you believe I still am in peri-menapause at age 59! I am going to keep this email so when the time comes that I may need these products that I know exactly where to go!
BTW, I’m so glad your Lady V is happy and cared for now. 😉

This is such a wonderful conversation that we all need to have. I went through menopause early at 38 and it was so rough going through it alone. I had so many of the experiences you spoke about in t ghb is blog. Thanks Kindra for being a beacon of light for those of us who constantly search for what can enhance our lives!

We shouldn’t have to do the guess work on our own while treading through menopause. Thank goodness for Kindra, a brand that is normalizing the menopause journey conversation and offering products to ease the journey! Knowledge is power and the more we share the better we know! Also, what a fabulous giveaway!!

Reply

No, we shouldn’t have to do the guess work, sister! So true. I always appreciate you and your insights. Yes, it’s time to normalize the conversation

I was giggling through this whole post. The funny subtle references to parts had me rolling. Having the “talk” with teenagers to explain the changes in their bodies is normal. But you are right nobody explains the big M to us. We have to slog through it and start asking questions. Nice for a company to get proactive about it. Because once M hits we really need something!

Reply

I believe I learned lots of this language from you sister! Fire up those lady parts or, perhaps un-fire them with Kindra to soothe and pamper our precious Lady V! I adore you and love that we are having conversations like this. This is how we change the world for the young ones behind us.
